    “The house was booked by my wife and I for a family get together to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.”

    It was all that we expected and more. The house is located in stunning countryside roughly midway between Dartmouth and Totnes. It is extremely well equipped and very comfortable with the helpful owner Peter and his partner Amy and family living next door in ann adjacent property. Everything was provided for our stay. The slight mark down for Maintenance was because, shortly after our arrival, a tap on the bath in the en-suite of the master bedroom broke resulting in us not being able to ...

    It was all that we expected and more. The house is located in stunning countryside roughly midway between Dartmouth and Totnes. It is extremely well equipped and very comfortable with the helpful owner Peter and his partner Amy and family living next door in ann adjacent property. Everything was provided for our stay. The slight mark down for Maintenance was because, shortly after our arrival, a tap on the bath in the en-suite of the master bedroom broke resulting in us not being able to stop the flow of cold water. Contact was made with Peter, who responded promptly and turned off the water supply to the bath. A plumber was called who later confirmed that a replacement would need to be ordered from the manufacturers. So for the remainder of our week we were unable to use the bath in the en-suite. By way of other feedback members of our family were woken on a few occasions around 07.30am by young children, staying in other accommodation on the Estate, playing tennis/football on the tennis court. We thought this somewhat inconsiderate of the parents of these children, disturbing other guests on the Estate so early, so would recommend that the owners include in their guidance notes, provided in each property, that the tennis court should not be used before 9.00am! However these are minor observations in what was a most memorable week in a wonderful property in a beautiful part of the country. Highly recommended and we hope to return in the not too distant future. Thank you to Peter, Amy and Emma we really enjoyed it.

The property

A wondrous manor farmhouse in the midst of the Devonshire countryside, Gitcombe House is a magnificent property encompassed by beautiful grounds and host to a truly elegant interior.

Resting within the Gitcombe Estate amidst several other wonderful properties, this Grade II listed Georgian house provides a large family with an enchanting space to call home while enjoying the delights of Devon.

Original features run throughout this amazing accommodation, such as bespoke joinery, ornate fireplaces, huge sash windows and period furnishings to create a luxurious environment.

Find a tranquil space in each of the six bedrooms, with a twin room and a shower room resting on the ground floor, perfect for the older members of the party, or those less able.

Discover the other five rooms on the first floor, including another twin, a king-size, a super-king-size, a triple room with three singles, and finally the master bedroom with a super-king-size bed and a beautiful en-suite bathroom.

Freshen up with a soak in the cast iron slipper bath within the family bathroom, or take a shower within the double walk-in enclosure, while a cloakroom across the landing still has an original 'thunder-box' WC, now modernised to offer a convenient facility.

Cornworthy is a picturesque village in the sought-after South Hams area of Devon that dates back to Saxon times. Much of the village makes up part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The coastal towns of Dittisham and Dartmouth are nearby and provide excellent opportunities for marine activities and some of the UKs best seafood restaurants (such as The Seahorse). Totnes is also a short drive away, an attractive, vibrant town, which also includes a railway station that provides direct services to London Paddington in under three hours. For shopping addicts Totnes offers an excellent range of small independent retailers and unique shops. The town is famed for its promotion of ethical products, wholefoods and fair trade goods. In the Civil Hall Square you’ll find the weekly market which is held on Fridays and Saturdays. And an Elizabethan market held each Tuesday morning (May-September), when traders dress in Elizabethan period costumes and the Totnes Sunday Good Food Market.
