“34 Dart Marina was a wonderful apartment excellently equipped to a very high standard.”

The outlook from the lounge was fabulous with constant movement on the river Dart. The kitchen bedrooms and bathrooms leave nothing to be desired, everything has been thought of. I would have no hesitation in recommending this 5 star apartment and feel you will not find better. I would like to ask the owner to provide a bath mat as the shower is very slippery when wet and with no wall bars makes it difficult for older people to exit the shower safely. I would like to thank Coast & Country ...

“This apartment and setting was absolutely stunning.”

We loved our time here. The views from the apartment over the river did not disappoint. Two huge bathrooms and good sized bedrooms were perfect for a group of four. Although top floor there is a good sized and quick lift in the block which was perfect for my 79 year old mum who struggles with stairs. The car parking space is also right outside of the block. Good to see tea towels, dish scourer, a few dishwasher tabs and other cleaning items available within the property. The location was perfect for us, a short flat walk away from numerous shops and restaurants, alongside ferry access. We felt very safe at night walking around and even had drinks at the hotel next door which was handy. A nice quiet area. We would definitely recommend this place and will return.

“This was our second visit to this lovely property, and we have booked again for next year.”

It is easily accessible. The car parking space is right outside and there is a lift to the property which is all on one level on the second floor. The view is exactly as in the photograph and, while the balcony is fairly small, the windows fold right back so that the whole room becomes part of the balcony. It is well equipped and comfortable. In our opinion it is the best property in this development.

A very few things that could be improved Disappointing that there was no kettle on arrival Also that the fridge was switched off The shower door in the en-suite does not close properly The shower control is also very stiff The hair dryer in the main bedroom was filthy There is an electrical fault on the main bedroom lights - when the en-suite light are switched on the bedroom light flickers The information folder needs updating Apart from that we had a lovely time

I am sorry you had these problems. I was informed the kettle was leaking and had been replaced with a new item. The fridge freezer is brand new and should have been on for your arrival. I will check on the shower door and the shower control. The hair dryer is an oversight, again I will see that it is checked. I will also test the lights. “We had a very enjoyable Autumn break at 34 Dart Marina, however our experience with Coast and Country Cottages was disappointing.”

A prior request for non-biological laundry of linen met with a negative response and the only solution offered was for us to bring our own towels and bed linen...not a wholly satisfactory situation when booking a high-end property. Communications with Coast and Country were less than helpful…key collection and directions to the property were not straightforward…closing times of the office were not given, emails were sent during our stay, and telephone calls made to our home landline, neither of which were received until our return. Cleanliness and maintenance were also disappointing...weeds growing on balcony...silverfish in bath and shower. The controls in the walk-in shower are practically impossible to use with wet hands. Overall, however we had a very comfortable stay at 34 Dart Marina and the view from the balcony was outstanding. We hope to return to Dartmouth in the future as there is so much more to see and do in such a lovely area. We would not hesitate to stay at 34 Dart Marina again, but would expect an improved, more customer-focused approach from Coast and Country Cottages.

“Our second stay in this beautiful apartment directly overlooking the River Dart.”

It's supremely comfortable, well maintained, expensively furnished and extensively equipped. A real home from home. It's mesmerising to sit in front of the large bifold doors, or even open them up and go onto the balcony and take in the view of all the river traffic, boats and people pottering about. There's always something happening. In fact we've never even used the television and the books that we've taken with us have remained unread because we just want to look at that view. Likewise we self cater despite the excellent choice of eating places in Dartmouth. The kitchen is a pleasure to cook in and it's an easy, flat walk to M&S where you can buy all the provisions that you need. With parking right outside the apartment block and a lift right to the front door, it's so easy too to bring whatever you might need from home. In summary, a wonderful place to stay and it's all about the view.

“The apartment was extremely well appointed with excellent beds, comfortable lounge furniture, and an amazing view.”

However a grab rail in the shower cubicle would make it much safer especially for older people, and due to the size of the spacious lounge, it would be a huge improvement to have a larger TV. The attitude of the handling agents leaves room for improvement.

“This apartment was in an amazing spot.”

The view is just incredible and provides a wonderful window in which to watch the world pass by. Very minor points it was very impersonal and stark - none of the usual trimmings in holiday homes that enhance your stay - books, games, binoculars even given the location etc - those thoughtful touches that turn great into brilliant. (We are serial renters for 30+ years) The cupboards were also bare - no sugar(I did leave some for the next guests) one coffee pod, no oil (things like herbs etc that make it feel that there is a community of people enjoying the house and wanting to share) no rubbish bags or even a handful of dishwashing tabs and very cheap loo roll. And my husband’s keen nose felt that the towels smelt. As I say it is these small touches that can be easily delivered that really can elevate a property easily. We love Dartmouth and had a lovely stay - thank you.

Thank you for your comments. There should be the basics already in the flat to start you off for the week and we aim to provide dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, hand soap dispensers, loo roll, kitchen roll and pedal bin liners. Some books are now added and more will come later. Binoculars are in the flat and I will make sure they are more obvious. The towels are professionally and thoroughly laundered, perhaps too thoroughly but it is better to have them as clean as possible for the next guests. “Firstly the apartment itself is very impressive.”

We were lucky enough to stay during a week of solid sunshine and the quality of everything in the apartment (and attached complex)and the sunny views over the marina from the lounge/small balcony had a definate wow factor! As a family of 4 we also found the location to be perfect-out of the hussle of the main town traffic system but easy walking distance to all the facilities we needed. This really is a special place and if youre thinking of booking, do it! The only gripe i had was with the helpfulness (or not) of the handling agent on our day of arrival but as long as you dont need to deal with them other than picking up keys you'll be fine.

“This is a great apartment with lovely views, light and airy interiors and an adjacent parking spot of a standard size.”

Access to Dartmouth's centre is all level, with a roomy lift in the apartment building. Facilities are good, beds very comfortable, and everything was spotless. We had 2 issues during our stay hence the 4 stars and not 5. The first has been mentioned on another review, there is a strong and significant draft that comes down the chimney and up through a grid in the floor of the living room. Any heating that is on will not help with this! The fire is for display only so we were able to block off the opening to prevent the draft somewhat, but this really needs attention. The second issue was that we were unable to change the heating for a day and a half after arrival, as the control touchscreen had been locked with a PIN, presumably by another guest. Contacting the local Coast and Country on Sunday diverted us to Sykes head office. They did call back later, but a fix was not available until the Monday am when a call from the local office to the Caretaker resolved the problem in moments as he had online access to the system. This seems to be a bit of a procedural fail, the on-call head office obviously doesn't have access to local contacts. We would happily stay here again, as I am sure the chimney situation will be resolved. And the response from Coast and Country when they were open on the Monday was immediate and helpful.

The property

34 Dart Marina is a spacious, newly decorated, newly furnished, stylish and luxurious two bedroomed (2nd Floor with lift) apartment with a balcony overlooking the glorious river views in a quiet position within the pretty development and sleeps four very comfortably.

A wide staircase or spacious lift takes you straight to the apartment which also benefits from its own parking space along with further guest parking and is only a short flat walk into the town centre along the river front.

The apartment has a large and spacious entrance hall (with coat cupboard) leading to a spectacular reception room with bi-fold doors opening onto the balcony with stunning river views.

The reception room has a range of comfortable furniture including a large sofa and two arm chairs and a smart TV with Netflix.

A round oak table seats four comfortably but can easily be extended to seat 6.

The modern kitchen also benefits from the river views and features white Poggenpohl units and a selection of appliances including: a six-ring gas hob, oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, microwave and coffee machine, DAB Bluetooth Radio and binoculars.

The Master Suite has a top of the range Hypnos super king-size bed (which can be made up as 2 single beds if requested) and is supplied with summer duvets and winter duvets depending on the time of year, built in wardrobes with both hanging rails and shelving, its own smart TV and black-out lined curtains.

The fully-tiled en suite bathroom has both a bath and a separate walk-in shower cubicle, hand basin, heated towel rail, plenty of storage, shaving point and underfloor heating.

Dartmouth has events including the Music Festival in May, the Regatta in August, the Food Festival in October, and Candlelit Dartmouth in December, while the Flavel (Arts) Center offers a constantly changing schedule of live performances and screenings of films. A riverboat voyage to the river's mouth or a ferry ride upstream to Agatha Christie's vacation home at Dittisham or Greenway are other options for exploring the River Dart.
