Everything catered for and extremely clean. We were left a lovely welcome basket with eggs, jam, marmalade, butter and bread and everything we needed was provided. We met the owners and their dog and they were really nice people. The close proximity to Salcombe and Kingsbridge was ideal and it’s a fabulous part of Devon. With places like Cloverwell in this country there is really no need to undertake the hassle of holidaying abroad. We were quite lucky with the weather and if you were fortunate enough to get a scorching hot week in Devon it would compare favourably with many Mediterranean islands. We would definitely highly recommend this property.

“Lovely flat in a beautiful and peaceful setting with friendly owner Rob.”

It was a comfortable home from home and very clean. Very good base for exploring South Devon. Quaint Kingsbridge being a gem with daily needs catered for. Thank you for the thoughtful food hamper and dog treats/towels etc., and for allowing use of your adjacent large field for exercising our Golden Retreiver. Will definately return in the future.

As a woman travelling on my own it is comforting knowing P + R were just down stairs. Good size garden for the dog before going out. All beaches just about on your doorstep but far away enough not to get stressed in the ‘holiday hussel’. Clean, and everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Welcome hamper a lovely touch after a long drive. Would stay again. Thank you x

“We've just returned from staying at Cloverwell in Woodleigh for Christmas.”

What a wonderful relaxing and peaceful place to spend some time. The apartment is spotlessly clean with absolutely everything you could possibly need. It has a very well-equipped kitchen which was perfect to cook our Christmas Dinner. Cloverwell is in a very quiet location and we really relaxed here. The apartment was extremely comfortable and very clean. It was super cosy and perfect for us considering the bad weather we had. Cloverwell is in a great location and had great parking and was close enough for leisurely walks in the surrounding woods.

The use of the shower was a bit of a mission to get a comfortable temperature we found that the dial around halfway seemed to stop the erratic temperature changes. We both thought that the sofa bed was not particularly comfortable as a sofa.

Gorgeous surroundings. Helpful info at property. A slightly larger sofa would have been more comfortable for a relaxing night in, however, it was adequate. Beautifully kept, well looked after. List of amenities on Sykes website would be helpful. Felt totally at home and really appreciated the starter pack. Loved the dog and chickens. Very welcoming. Many thanks indeed

“A spotlessly clean little flat in a beautiful part of Devon with many countryside walks from your doorstep.”

A generally well equipped kitchen and some thoughtful touches - welcome basket much appreciated. However, we felt the cottage is now in need of some updating and the issues experienced rather spoilt our stay. In particular, the bed mattress is extremely uncomfortable with broken springs that ping and dig. The duvet and pillows are thin, old and discoloured not feeling as hygienic as we would wish; similarly the bed linen requires replacing. We would also mention the limited seating in the sitting area - provision of only a small sofa, restricted our ability to stretch out our legs and relax comfortably in the evening after a long day enjoying the countryside. Finally, the electric shower is outdated, producing weak pressure and unpredictable water temperature.

We are surprised by your feedback as we have not had comments of this nature in the past. We have passed it on to the owner who has confirm that the duvets and pillows are renewed every season, they have apologised about the seating and have purchased two foot box-stools and reinstated a bean bag for extra comfort. They have also taken onboard your comments on the shower and will look to replace this. Please know that if you had made us aware of any matters whilst you were there, we would have done our best to rectify them immediately. “We would wholeheartedly recommend Cloverwell cottage for the high quality of its facilities, cleanliness, and welcome from the owners.”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cloverwell, with the unexpected bonus of wonderful sunny weather. Unfortunately the booking process was unclear and complicated, and so this comment is addressed to Sykes. We found Cloverwell on Dog Friendly Cottages, and started a booking with them. This was stopped at the payment stage - "our problem, not yours" the page said - when a company called Snaptrip intervened. A combination of phone numbers to call, new websites to process and the discovery of very unhappy reviews of a company called Sykes followed. Consequently we were concerned about what we might find when we arrived. As described above Cloverwell was lovely and there were no problems at all. But a day into our stay a company called Countryside Cottages contacted us to see how the stay was going and to offer its services if required. Why are so many different companies involved? What is the relationship between them all?

it is also ideal for your dog as the fenced garden is perfect and the surrounding walks and exercise facilities are also excellent. An ideal location to explore the beautiful Devon countryside and to switch off from the hussle and bussle of life in comfortable surroundings but located within travelling distance of larger towns and lots of beaches if you want to venture further. I would highly recommend Cloverwell.

“This cottage was within 20 miles of many pretty beaches and it was only a few minutes drive to the SW Coast path.”

There is also a really lovely riverside walk within walking distance. Not to be missed. Also local woods. The cottage has lovely views from the upstairs sitting room and was in a very quiet village. Very clean. The kitchen/dining and seating area has lots of natural light and was a nice space to sit in the evening as we could not eat in restaurants due to COVID during our stay. The enclosed garden is lovely to sit in when the sun is shining, which it did every day for our holiday in April! In previous reviews the bathroom was described as very small, it is small, like an en-suite, but was perfectly adequate for us ( husband is 6 ft). Hosts were friendly, but we hardly saw them. They did kindly provide us with Milk, bread, fresh eggs, honey jam and marmalade, which was really nice and we saw their hens every morning around the grounds, the eggs were very tasty. We have stayed in many cottages and we loved this one for the location especially, it was a very relaxing stay. We felt very safe everywhere we visited, COVID guidelines were well adhered to. “I absolutely loved Cloverwell!”

It had everything I needed and a few little extra's like e.g. eggs and bread left by the owner and even some little extra's for my dog. A great place to spend a few quiet days in a small village. However, having said all that I was not very happy that when I arrived at the cottage late in the afternoon (almost dark) after a long drive the key was not in the place where it was supposed to be. I had used the code for the little box by the door but the box was empty, no key anywhere. I rang the bell of the owner's house but no one seemed at home. I was not sure what to do, this was actually quite upsetting as I was on my own in a place totally unknown to me. Eventually - much later - a man appeared from a shed at the back and he turned out to be the owner. He then gave me the key and all he said was that this had never happened before, no apology at all. So that was really not a good start to my stay at Cloverwell.

As a pet friendly accommodation it's ideal with an enclosed garden to allow your pooch to have a wander. Even with lock down looming - It didn't disappoint. The owners do a fantastic job with the cleaning and ensuring you have home from home comforts. There was a generous welcome tray when I arrived - that was very much appreciated and went down a treat. I will definitely book for another visit in the future.

The accommodation is well thought out, it's very clean, and comfortable, with wonderful countryside views. It was amazing to wake up and see the hens roaming freely in the field. The hosts left a welcome pack which was very nice to receive, and there was one for the dog too! We would highly recommend this accommodation, especially if you looking for peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of a busy life. It gives you time to unwind, and relax after spending the day exploring the South Hams. We can highly recommend Bigbury beach, dog friendly too! Thank you Rob & Paula for a great stay.

“Cloverwell is a comfortable property for a couple and is doggie friendly.”

The owners live next door and are very friendly, providing a welcome pack and treats for doggie too. There is a small private garden and the Woodland Trust community woodlands are within easy reach if you enjoy walking. The rural location means that it is very peaceful, yet within a short reach of the shops in Kingsbridge. The open plan living space is bright and comfortable and provides everything you need for a pleasant stay.

“Cloverwell was an excellent location for a visit with a dog.”

They had thought of everything that you could possibly need, even down to welcome baskets (including a doggy one by the front door). Having stayed in Kingsbridge a number of times in recent years - once I'd got my bearings of where Woodleigh was as opposed to the centre of Kingsbridge - a few minutes in the car and I was on the Quay. Would recommend the location and accommodation to anyone - even the time of year (Oct/Nov) the weather couldn't have been better.

Shower room very small but plenty of space for towels and toiletries. Bedroom also very small and, although hanging space was adequate for myself, a couple would have found it insufficient. Having said that, the website did say that the bedroom was 'cosy' which most of us would interpret as 'small'.

“This apartment was perfect for a couple and one dog to relax and get away for a week by the coast.”

The owners were terrific hosts but not intrusive at all. We were welcomed with free range eggs,preserves,honey,cookies, butter,milk and tea coffee & sugar if you needed them. The accommodation was extremely comfortable and airy. It was a lovely touch leaving the dog some goodies and essentials down at the bottom of the stairs. The views are beautiful and the village location idyllic. It was a huge pity that the week we stayed we had a horrendous amount of rain so were unable to explore very much. The collection of village history books proved extremely useful and my husband enjoyed reading them whilst it lashed down with rain outside.We loved the holiday despite the weather.

The property

A modern annexe set on the outskirts of the small parish village Woodleigh, a few miles from the market town of Kingsbridge, and lovely Salcombe.

Cloverwell is accessed via a set of stairs, into the open plan living area, home to a newly fitted kitchen, dining table and living area with a TV which you can relax in front of after a day exploring the Devon coast.

There is double bedroom and smart shower room which finish off the property.

To the outside of the property is a garden area with a BBQ and picnic bench, where you can relax with an evening drink while enjoying the surrounding countryside.

The market town of Kingsbridge is only a few miles from the property with an array of pubs, cafés and shops for you to enjoy.

Whether you are looking for a seaside or countryside break, you will find both with Cloverwell.

The exclusive seaside town of Salcombe is not far from the property with many traditional pubs and cafes, or why not enjoy a Devon ice cream while relaxing by the water’s edge.

There also many lovely coastal walks in the surrounding area, and some gorgeous beaches to enjoy such as Bigbury, Thurlestone.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside and woodland, the idyllic, picturesque village of Woodeleigh is perfect for those wishing to escape from it all. Located nearby is the popular Avon Mill Garden Centre, set on the banks of the River Avon, with a number of boutique shops, a gallery and a bustling café/restaurant serving cream teas and a variety of delicious dishes . The pretty village of Woodleigh is within a few miles of Kingsbridge and Salcombe, and just a 15-20 minute drive to Bigbury Bay and Bantham beach. The stunning landscapes of Dartmoor National Park are also within easy reach.
